Why Attend a Parent Meeting?

Posted by on Jan 14, 2019 in Blog | 0 comments

On the first Monday of each month a small group of homeschool moms, (and occasionally a few dads) meet at Monument Bible Church. You know this. Each month, the meeting is announced via website emails, Facebook event posts, and even an emailed agenda. And yet, most months only 4-6 people attend. You may have a very good reason for being unable to attend. Maybe you have other commitments. Some of you do not live nearby, and cannot make it. However, if you do not attend for any other reason, let’s look at a few reasons you should. Let’s look at the stated purpose of VHSA. The...

As We Begin a New Year…

Posted by on Aug 16, 2018 in Blog | 0 comments

Today was our first day of school for the 2018-19 year. To say it did not go as expected would not be quite true, since after 9 years of first days of homeschool, I have learned to expect the first day to not go “as expected.” I have had to leave the house 3 times before noon. I have had a child in tears three times over frustrations with understanding curriculum and begging me to switch to something different. All of the other projects I intended to accomplish today have not even begun. On top of this, I have been continuing the daily struggle with anxiety that is currently plaguing more...

We’ve done so many fun things, and learned lessons together, encouraged one another, and prayed hard prayers together. I can’t wait to see what happens in another 30 years. Maybe my grandkids will be in VHSA? As the years go by our...

February – from the Chair

Dear Friends, This month as I reflect on Valentine’s Day and friendship, I find myself thinking of you all, and how we shape one another.  As we are getting ready for our conference,  Elizabeth suggested the theme of “Connections: Bring encouragement to share, find encouragement you need.” inspired by the verse “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” 1 Thes. 5:11.   In preparations for the connections made at the conference, I’ve been attempting to track down all of the former chairpersons of VHSA. So far...
