February Newsletter Cover

From the Chair:

It’s always hard to describe our Association to those who haven’t seen it. We have a large number of families, but what’s especially wonderful, is how active they are! Each family engages with the group in the unique ways that benefit the family… and the group at large.
Some families are involved with the Co-op classes. They may attend and just do some room or hall monitoring as their volunteer jobs on co-op days. Other families are teaching classes or volunteering to help with extra cleaning duties. Our co-op truly is a great example of co-operation, as we have over 50 classes going on through the day: from paid teachers to volunteer teachers. Two days a month it is quite the undertaking!
Some families are not in the co-op but do attend our other activities. (And yes, some do both!) Our field trips, mom how-to classes, musical hours, sports nights…. We have 2 events a week on average, not including co-op days. These events may require no RSVP or a week or a month’s notice. We often have 20 or more kids turn out for these kinds of events. Our biggest turn out so far was Nature Night, with 110 attendees!
Some families volunteer to make things go. Some plan one field trip a year; some plan more. Some attend all the parent meetings; some can’t always make it, but correspond by email. Many folks volunteer for some part of VHSA. One person does the newsletter, another the website, yet another the facebook posts, and even more serve as leadership teams for co-op, or planning teams for events such as the graduation or the conference.
How do you describe a group like ours? We are as varied as the curriculum and teaching styles we represent. And we change from year to year as we flex with who is able and willing to contribute. This is what I love about VHSA. I’m so thankful God made us all so different! He’s really pretty awesome that way, isn’t He?
Thanks for being your wonderful part of our group. We wouldn’t be the same without you!

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;  and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;  and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.  To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
